Sesco Products Group Drives
Ford Motor Company With New Coil Feed Line

Close-Coupled Line Effectively Processes Coil Material in only 16 ft. of Overall Length

This Sesco close-couple coil feed line developed for Ford Motor Company effectively processes material within a length of just 16 ft.

Sesco Products Group has delivered a fully integrated 30,000-lb. x 24-in.-wide close-coupled coil feed line to Ford Motor Company's Transmission Assembly Plant in Sterling Heights, MI. This feed line will provide material to a combination blanking/transfer die for producing torque converter housings.

Sesco worked closely with Ford's Manufacturing Process Engineering group to develop a system that not only met their material feed needs effectively, but also fit into a relatively small footprint of just 16 ft. in length. The line features a Sesco combination power-driven feeder/straightener unit capable of handling 0.16-in.-thick x 24-in.-wide HSLA (High-Strength, Low-Alloy) steel with a yield strength rating of 70,000 psi. A motorized coil reel with an automatic centering function can support coils up to 30,000 lbs. Continuous feed and payoff operations are maintained via an Allen Bradley IMC "S" Class motion controller.
