Sesco Products GroupCustomer Success - Logghe Stamping: Cradle / Straightener / Feeder Lines
Logghe Stamping Company (Warren, MI) is using a new cradle/straightener/feeder combination line from Sesco Products Group. This line reduces floor space by up to 50% compared to conventional slack-loop setups. By making the cradle/straightener/feeder into one unit, line space is minimized because a slack-loop pit is eliminated. This also reduces the need for other line equipment such as a threading table and concrete encased pit that would otherwise be required. A normal installation would require 35 for the loop setup. Sescos equipment only requires 18. Sesco also designed unique geometry in the combination coil stop, peeler, threading assist and dekinker assembly for Logghe. In the extreme forward position, it serves as a coil catcher. It holds the coil tight together when banding is removed. Then, it catches the leading end as the coil unwinds, dekinking and guiding the stock into the pinch rolls. The Sesco line has a coil capacity of 40,000 lbs. and can stamp steel from 12 to 72 with a thickness range of 0.059 to 0.250 at 36. The feed length ranges up to 48. With a 12 feed length, the system can deliver coil at 40 SPM. Overall feed accuracy is 0.005. Sescos coil cradle uses a two-roll type coil support driven by a digitally controlled DC drive. Cradle rolls are mounted in anti-friction bearings. The coil is centered and guided between two fixed adjustable side plates. These side plates are individually adjustable for locating the coil. Features offered by the straightener/coil-feeding equipment include: seven straightening rolls and one set of feed rolls; powered straightening-roll adjustment; automatic lubrication; automatic chain tightening; 37 +/- 5 inch powered pass-line adjustment; and powered side-plate adjustment. Rolls on the feeder/straightener are hardened and ground. Input threading and feed rolls measure eight inches in diameter; straightener rolls are 5 3/8 inches in diameter. Hydraulics lift the upper pinch roll, pneumatics operate the upper feed roll. For accuracy, a pulse generator continuously measures the surface length of the strip passing through the straightener. An output signal is used to initiate the press cycle when a feed cycle is completed. This unique cradle/straightener/feeder system illustrates the innovative design capabilities of the Sesco Products Group. |
