HAPPENING  AT  FABTECH  2016

COE Focuses on Equipment Performance, Backed by Science and Service
In booth C16020, COE Press Equipment’s theme is all about performance. COE’s ability to deliver productivity is being emphasized through its newest coil processing equipment and the physical presence of its Service Van and on-site service team.

Science Sets the Foundation
COE has been on the forefront of processing today’s advanced high strength steels (AHHS), developing its first straightener in 2014 to handle these materials. Since then, COE has expanded this capability into more of its equipment including the SpaceMaster™ HD Series 4 and 5 compact coil lines, which can fit in under 27-ft. of floor space, and the recently re-designed 350 Series Straightener
Key to COE’s success in this area is the fact that every product the company produces is backed by performance numbers and FEA analysis. COE has developed proprietary utilities and tools that calculate the hard data needed to prove out whether or not a machine can handle the high torque and forces needed to shape high-strength materials. There is science behind every solution the company develops.

Service Optimizes Productivity
COE’s equipment is designed for ideal productivity, the reality is that the people needed to keep it running at its best are often too busy to provide this focus and time. Through a variety of offerings, Coe’s service team can keep your personnel and your equipment, be it COE or another brand, performing optimally.
COE’s service team is on-site during the show to answer any questions regarding Technical Support, Field Service, Technical Training, or Preventative Maintenance. Of special interest is COE’s Refurbishment and Retrofit services, where it has proven success in retrofitting existing coil lines with new straightener heads capable of processing AHSS.
After the FABTECH show, COE is taking its Service Van on a road trip and attendees are encouraged to visit the booth and request an appointment for a visit and equipment evaluation.

Success for 40 Years
Celebrating 40 years of performance, COE invites attendees to join its anniversary celebration each day of the show at 3:00 or stop by the booth earlier for a cappuccino or coffee.
John Coe, entrepreneur and CEO, started COE Press Equipment in 1976 with $500, selling rebuilds, used equipment, accessories and parts to the metal stamping industry. When a customer asked for a new 60-in. double air feed line with a 7-roll straightener and a 20,000-lb. reel, John took the opportunity and hired two employees to help. This line established COE as a provider of a higher quality machine with innovative features. By 1978, a 2,000 sq. ft. building was rented on South Street in Rochester with another 2000-sq. ft. building added a year later.
Since then, COE has continued to grow, currently numbering five buildings totaling 65,000 sq. ft. and housing sales, engineering, machining, fabrication, assembly and service.

NEW  350  Power  Straightener  Upgrade  and  Retrofit

11/2/2016

Picture
COE Press Equipment’s updated 350 Series Power Straighteners contain new design features that enable processing of a wider range of materials including Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS). The new coil straighteners offer a 30+ percent improvement in strength and rigidity due to increased roll journal diameter and radius, and increased bearing load capacity. The straighteners also feature enhanced outboard support, new idler shafts, improved backup design and other updates. Importantly, the straighteners also increase work roll penetration by a third, helping achieve the material flatness required to properly feed AHSS.

“Higher strength advanced steels require higher force and torque to properly straighten, which can take a toll on equipment,” said Steve Donnay, director of sales and marketing. “Through data and FEA analyses, we’ve identified where design enhancements were needed to achieve material flatness and provide the reliability and dependability required by metal stampers.”
The 350 straighteners handle metal coil widths from 1.0-in. to 54-in., thickness from .010-in. to .310-in., and coil weights up to 30,000 lbs. The broad range of coil stock capability includes cold-rolled steel, hot rolled steel, galvanized, stainless, pre-painted, aluminum and AHSS. The 350 straighteners are intended to be paired with COE’s ServoMaster™ Series 3 and Series 4 roll feeds. The coil straighteners provide encoder feedback and motorized roll adjustment along with numerous other options.

Retrofit Capability
An additional benefit to the COE straightener is its modular design, which enables these straighteners to be retrofit to existing coil processing lines. This ability can enable stampers to quickly upgrade their equipment processing capability for handling of AHSS, saving a significant amount of money as compared to the investment required for a totally new straightener. Overall, the standard design of the 350 series straighteners provides an excellent value to customers.

Coil  Processing  Systems  for  Fineblanking  Applications

11/1/2016

COE Press Equipment has announced the availability of its high precision coil processing lines well suited to fineblanking applications. The systems rely upon COE’s “Fineblanking Edition” HD straightener that can address both the coil set and crossbow issues necessary to achieve the flatness required for producing near net shape blanked parts. As compared to other straighteners, the Fineblanking Edition provides increased roll force delivery, stronger gears and bearings, and an improved straightener roller backup mechanism for increased rigidity.

“The precision we’ve built into our straightening heads enables us to offer feed lines capable of achieving the flatness and tight tolerances required for fineblanking, helping efficiently deliver specialized stampings with high dimensional accuracy,” said Steve Donnay, director of sales and marketing for COE.

Fineblanked parts are often produced from thick and high-strength material, which can be dangerous to handle manually. To address this issue, COE’s fineblanking lines feature coil reels with multiple hydraulic hold downs with motorized endwheels for effective coil containment. The mandrel and motorized endwheels rotate in unison for effective threading and rewinding. Additionally, COE’s pivoting “alligator” style peeler-debender offers a hands-free, modular approach to threading.
COE’s fineblanking lines can process materials at widths from 1.0” to 36.0”, thickness up to .500”, and coil weights up to 40,000 lbs. They can process materials with yield strengths up to 1000 Mpa while holding flatness tolerances of .003” TIR per square foot.
